Welcome
Hello and welcome! I am a Pushcart and Forward Prize nominated poet with a passion for history, health and wellbeing.
I returned to writing after a long legal career and a cancer diagnosis. During and after my illness and treatment, reading and writing poetry became an essential (re)building block. The brilliant, diverse, global poetry community became my shelter and inspiration. I am passionate about the benefits of poetry: the comfort it offers to people going through tough times and the way it brings all kinds of folk together.
During the pandemic, I set up The Rainbow Poems, a poetry community for anyone going through major life change (archive available here). I also co-founded Sonnets for Shakespeare, an anthology in support of the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust, Stratford, and the Globe Theatre in London (my home city). I am The Poetry Society’s Stanza Rep for Germany, where I now live.
I’ve been widely published in journals, zines and anthologies (I adore anthologies!). Winning competitions run by Hedgehog Poetry Press and The Broken Spine led to my two pamphlet/chapbooks, We Wear The Crown (2022) and Loggerheads (2024). Since then, I’ve been longlisted in competitions and I was commended in The Poetry Society’s Stanza Competition 2024 (read the poem here). My debut collection, Daughter of Fire, is due out from Yaffle Press in April 2025.
I find writing inspiration in my own life experience, in myths and legends, and in history - especially women’s history. Daughter of Fire reimagines the life and legacy of the 15th century Queen Margaret of Anjou, Shakespeare’s “she-wolf of France”, and gives voice to wayward women from medieval times to the present day. The renowned poet Anna Saunders says: “This is a book of immense heat and power, not 'just' in the subject matter, but in the fierce and searing lyrical voice of a gifted and courageous poet. This is extraordinary writing and a must-read book.”
